Premium Kitchens of Wakefield has been laser-templating, cutting and fitting kitchen worktops across Wakefield and West Yorkshire for over 20 years, and the worktop side of a project is handled by the same in-house team as the rest of the kitchen - City & Guilds-qualified joiners and worktop fitters working under one project manager, not a separate subcontractor brought in to cut a slab and leave. Every job starts with a free home consultation and a clear written quotation before any cutting or fitting takes place, and the finished installation is backed by a 5-year guarantee on labour and a 2-year guarantee on the worktop material itself.
Whichever surface suits your kitchen, the process and the guarantee are the same: our quartz worktops, granite worktops, Corian worktops and Minerva solid surface worktops are all templated, fabricated and fitted by the same technicians from first measurement to final seal.
Inside the Worktop Price: What's Included and What Costs Extra
- Free home consultation and laser/plywood templating of your existing kitchen space
- CNC and water-jet cutting and edge-profiling of the slab at our fabrication unit, in your chosen profile (square, bullnose, bevel, ogee, pencil round, waterfall or Dupont)
- Sink, tap, hob and drainer cut-outs, plus seaming where two slabs need to be joined
- Delivery and hand-fitting of the finished worktop, and any matching upstands or splashback
- Removal of the old worktop and clearance of packaging and offcuts once fitting is complete

Not Included / Costed Separately
- The sink, tap, hob or appliance units themselves - we cut and fit the worktop around whatever you supply or choose from our range, but the appliance is priced separately
- Reconnecting plumbing or gas/electrics to appliances once the new worktop is in - this runs through our in-house NVQ-qualified plumbers, Part P electricians or Gas Safe engineers as its own line on the quote, not bundled into the worktop price
- Structural changes to cabinet carcasses needed to change worktop thickness, add an island, or square up an out-of-level run
- Tiling, painting or making good the wall above a new upstand or splashback once it's fitted
Order of Work: Template, Fabricate, Fit
- Home consultation and material choice -- A designer looks at your existing kitchen and talks through quartz, granite, Dekton, Corian, Minerva or laminate, and you agree the edge profile, upstand height and where any sink, hob or drainer cut-outs need to go. You leave with a written quotation covering the material, the fitting, and any plumbing or electrical reconnection, so there's nothing left to guess at later.
- Laser templating -- Once the material and cut-outs are agreed, a technician laser-templates your kitchen with the existing worktop still in place, capturing the true wall angles, cabinet run and appliance positions rather than working from a tape measure and a paper pattern. This is the step that catches an out-of-square wall or a cabinet that's a few millimetres out before it turns into a fitting-day problem.
- Fabrication at the Woodville Way workshop -- The template goes straight to our own fabrication unit, where the slab or sheet is cut, edge-profiled and the cut-outs formed on CNC and water-jet equipment. This normally takes 7 to 10 days, and because the same in-house team does the cutting as did the templating, there's no template being couriered between separate contractors.
- Old worktop removed, new one delivered -- On fitting day the old worktop is disconnected and lifted out first, so the new one only comes in once the run is clear. Your kitchen stays usable right up to that morning rather than being out of action for days waiting on fabrication.
- Fitting, jointing and sealing -- The new worktop is fitted onto the cabinets, any joints are seamed and sealed, and sink and hob cut-outs and any upstands or splashback are set in place. Where a gas hob or range cooker needs reconnecting, that's handed to our Gas Safe registered engineer as part of the same visit rather than a separate call-out.
- Final check and sign-off -- Before the team leaves, the worktop is checked over with you, offcuts and old material are cleared under our registered waste carrier licence, and the 5-year installation guarantee and 2-year material guarantee are confirmed in writing.
How the Worktop Materials We Fit Compare
| Material | Look | Heat & scratch resistance | Day-to-day care | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quartz | Consistent colour and pattern, engineered from mined quartz and resin | Very high scratch resistance, tolerates hot pans briefly | Wipe clean, no sealing ever needed | Busy family kitchens wanting one surface that never needs maintenance |
| Granite | Natural stone, unique veining from slab to slab | Resists heat and scratching well but is porous, so it's sealed before it leaves the fabrication unit | Occasional resealing, wipe up acidic spills (wine, citrus) promptly | Homeowners who want a genuine natural stone look and don't mind the odd reseal |
| Dekton | Ultra-compact sintered surface, matt or gloss finishes | Thermally resistant, resists chipping and cracking better than most stone | Wipe clean, resists acids and oils | Modern kitchens with heavy hob and range cooker use |
| Solid surface (Corian, Minerva etc) | Seamless join lines, can be thermoformed into coved upstands and integrated sinks | Warm to the touch but can scorch or mark; light surface damage can be sanded out | Occasional light sanding restores the finish | Curved islands, coved upstands, or a seamless integrated sink |
| Laminate | Printed decorative surface bonded to an MDF or chipboard core | Least heat and scratch resistant of the range - always use a trivet | Wipe clean, avoid placing hot pans directly on the surface | Tight budgets or a quick refresh before letting/selling |
Why the Template and the Fit Come From the Same Hands
Templating is done with a laser rather than a paper pattern, so the digital template picks up the true wall angles, an out-of-square cabinet run or an old skirting line that a tape measure can miss - the kind of thing that causes a gap at the wall or a seam that won't sit flush if it isn't caught before cutting. That template goes straight to our own fabrication unit on Woodville Way rather than being passed to a separate templating contractor or cutting shop, so a job that starts with templating on a Monday is typically back on your worktop within 7 to 10 days. The technician who takes the template is also the one who comes back to fit it, so if there's a query about a cut-out position or a seam line on fitting day, it goes to the person who actually measured your kitchen rather than a call handler reading from a job sheet.
How Far We Travel for Worktop Templating and Fitting
Our fabrication workshop sits on Woodville Way in Knottingley, and the same team that takes the template also cuts the slab and fits it, so Wakefield itself is no further out of the way for us than the towns around it. Pontefract's older terraced streets often bring narrow galley kitchens and cabinet runs that aren't quite standard widths, which is exactly where laser templating earns its keep over a tape measure. Out towards Walton and Crofton, a fair few of the kitchens we've templated sit in barn conversions or older stone-built houses where a wall that looks straight rarely is, and the template has to account for that rather than assume a square room. Castleford and Normanton jobs tend to run to more conventional cabinet widths, which keeps fabrication straightforward once the template's back at the workshop, and we template and fit just as regularly in Featherstone, Ossett, Outwood, Stanley, Hemsworth, South Kirkby and Altofts.
Worktop Templating and Fitting: Your Questions Answered
Is there a guarantee on a new worktop and its fitting?
Yes. Installation and labour are covered by a 5-year guarantee, and the worktop material itself carries a 2-year guarantee. If a joint opens up, a support bracket works loose or a seal fails within that period, it's put right at no extra cost.
Will I be without a worktop while my new one is being made?
No. Templating is done with your existing worktop still in place, and fabrication then happens off-site at our workshop over roughly 7 to 10 days, so your kitchen stays usable right up until the fitting day itself, when the old surface is removed and the new one fitted in the same visit.
Can a new worktop go onto my existing kitchen cabinets, or do I need new units too?
In most cases a new worktop can be fitted straight onto existing cabinets, provided the carcasses are level, sound and the right depth for the material you've chosen. This is checked at the free consultation, and if any cabinet adjustment is needed first, it's scoped and priced into the same written quote rather than being a surprise on fitting day.
