A tired kitchen doesn't always need a full strip-out. Spraying and repainting the existing cabinet doors, drawer fronts and frames can change the whole feel of a Wakefield kitchen while keeping the carcasses, worktops and layout you already have. It's the same finishing skill used on new-build kitchens, applied to what's already on your walls - if you're weighing up how a job like this is actually applied, our spray versus brush painting page compares the two methods in more detail.
If your cabinets are structurally sound but the colour or finish has dated, a professional respray is usually the quickest way to bring a kitchen back to life without the cost or upheaval of a full replacement. For a broader look at what pushes the price up or down on a job like this, our kitchen spray painting costs guide sets out the main cost factors.
What's Included in a Cabinet Painting or Spraying Job
- Full degreasing, TSP cleaning and sanding of every door, drawer front and cabinet frame being painted
- Filling of dents, scratches, loose joints and old handle holes before priming
- A primer matched to the substrate - bonding primer for laminate, stain-blocking primer for timber - so the topcoat adheres properly
- Spray or brush application of the agreed topcoat, including colour-matched finishes such as Farrow & Ball or Little Greene
- New handles, knobs or soft-close hinges where you've chosen to update the hardware as part of the job
- An in-home colour consultation with sample boards, checked under your own kitchen's lighting before anything is ordered
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Structural repair or replacement of a badly damaged door, drawer box or carcass - this is priced once seen at the site visit, not assumed as part of a standard repaint
- New worktops, appliances or a full re-plumb - these can be quoted alongside the painting work but aren't part of a straightforward cabinet respray
- Large-scale interior reorganisation, such as new drawer boxes or bespoke storage runs, beyond basic organiser inserts
- Gas hob or range cooker disconnection and reconnection, which is carried out separately by a Gas Safe registered engineer
- VAT and any extra access costs for unusually high or awkward cabinetry, confirmed once the job has been seen in person
One In-House Team, Not a Subcontracted Painter
Cabinet spraying is one of the things Premium Kitchens of Wakefield has specialised in for more than 20 years, alongside bespoke cabinetmaking and worktop fitting, so the team holding the spray gun on a respray is the same in-house team that builds kitchens from scratch, not a painter brought in for the day. Doors are refinished using airless spraying with dust-free extraction, which is what gives a smooth, brush-mark-free finish rather than a DIY-looking coat. If a respray throws up something beyond paint - a hinge that needs replacing, a socket moved for new under-cabinet lighting, a hob that needs disconnecting - it's handled by qualified trades from the same company: City & Guilds joiners, Part P-registered electricians and Gas Safe engineers, all coordinated by one project manager rather than passed between subcontractors. Old hardware and materials are removed under a registered waste carrier licence. Every job starts with a free consultation and a written quotation before any tools come through the door, and the finished work carries a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation plus a 2-year guarantee on products.
Where We Carry Out Kitchen Cabinet Respraying
Kitchen Fitters Wakefield covers Wakefield first, plus the surrounding towns and villages we've worked in for over 20 years - Castleford, Knottingley (where the workshop is based), Featherstone, Normanton, Pontefract, Ossett, Crofton, Walton, Outwood, Stanley, Hemsworth, South Kirkby and Altofts. We also take on cabinet transformation projects further afield across Leeds, Barnsley, Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Manchester, bringing the same in-home consultation - paint sample boards and before-and-after photos - to wherever the kitchen is.
A Few More Cabinet Painting Questions
Will the spraying create dust and fumes through the rest of my house?
We spray using an airless system paired with dust-free extraction, which pulls overspray and dust out at source rather than letting it settle across worktops, floors and other rooms. Doors and drawer fronts are typically removed and sprayed in a controlled area rather than in the open kitchen, so the mess is far more contained than DIY brush-and-roller painting would be, though we still dust-sheet the kitchen and cover work surfaces as standard.
What guarantee do you offer on a painted cabinet respray?
Labour and installation are covered by a 5-year guarantee, and the paint system and any replacement hardware carry a 2-year product guarantee. If a fault shows up within that period because of the application rather than everyday wear and tear, we come back and put it right.
Do you take away the old handles, hinges and any offcuts?
Yes. We hold a registered waste carrier licence, so old hardware, packaging and any removed materials are taken away and disposed of legally as part of the job rather than left for you to deal with.
